St Albans and Harpenden are among 20 commuting areas outside the M25 with the highest value homes in the South East.
Season ticket holders travelling to and from third-placed St Albans collectively own £3.2bn worth of property, according to a survey conducted recently. Commuters from Harpenden station (seventh in the rankings) own homes worth a total of £2.77bn.
The figures are based on season ticket journeys in and out of stations, using data held by the Office of Rail Regulation, multiplied by average house price in the area.
