Guildford Agent Cycles The Alps in Aid Of Charity

Director of Martin & Co Guildford, Richard Neale, has just completed a grueling cycle tour of the Alps in aid of Cancer Research, Help for Heroes and the mental health charity; Oakleaf.

His fundraising was supported by friends, family, clients and a grant from Rightmove’s charitable fund, which provided equipment and travel means to allow the maximum amount raised to all be donated to charity.

Richard, cycled over 300km while in the French Alps and climbed over 10,000 metres (33,000ft) in just four days. Although the challenge was great, Richard and friends endured to raise over £4000, with the final total being boosted by 10% by Agents Giving.

Richard commented on his preparation for the extraordinary adventure “Since I started training five months ago (having not ridden a road bike or done any real exercise for 3 years due to a couple of knee operations), I have ridden over 2,500km and climbed over 28,500m in an effort to get fit for the challenge”.

The charities chosen all had a great resonance in Richards’s personal life, with the work of Help for Heroes, a charity that cares for dedicated service men and women injured in the field of battle and Oakleaf providing invaluable work to help those dealing with mental health issues, being very important to him. Cancer Research however was an especially important cause to the agent, as he has seen many close friends and family struggle with the disease, in particular his father who is currently battling it. The money Richard has donated to this charity helps fund pioneering medical research into curing this disease for all, for good.

Reflecting on his adventure, Neale said “In a word, the trip was incredible! The suffering was undoubtedly immense, but the views were worth every minute of suffering! The fantastic support of a number of friends, family and landlords plus Martin & Co really gave me the drive I needed to complete the expedition. Overall it was a great experience, with a great group of friends who were really encouraging”.
