Staff at leading rental specialists Martin & Co this week put their weight behind Crewe Alexandra’s efforts to win the Johnsons Paint Trophy. ‘The Alex’ meet Southend United in Sunday’s final at Wembley, having seen off Coventry City in an exciting two-legged semi-final a few weeks ago.
Both lettings offices, in Crewe and in Nantwich, are decorated with scarves and flags to highlight and commemorate the football club’s second trip to the national football stadium in less than 12 months. Crewe won promotion at Wembley last May by beating Cheltenham in the playoff final.
“We are a very local business, and many of our staff attend the Alex matches. Our Directors rarely miss a game, and we think it’s important to be part of the local community”, said Crewe office manager Stuart Harrison. “We often see our landlords and tenants there, and it helps build the close personal relationships with clients that we like to have.”
Martin & Co Crewe’s own sharpshooter, negotiator Ben Harding, explains that the football connection with the rental sector market leaders is a strong one:
“When some of the former Alex players moved on, they kept their properties here and rented them out with us. We also help the club to find suitable accommodation for new players and loan signings, and do what we can to get them settled as quickly as possible.
Because of the reputation this gave us in footballing circles, we now also count some premiership players amongst our landlords. Last summer some really well-known football names and their agents were in touch with us looking for places to rent as well, as they were moving up from clubs in the south”.
The award-winning property firm, who recently opened a separate sales division, have also been longstanding supporters of the Alex, and sponsor the Club’s programme sellers. Director Shaun Cafferty was quick to point out other ties to the football club:
“Crewe Alexandra draw their support from the same areas that we strongly cover in property rentals – Alsager, Middlewich, Nantwich and Sandbach, as well as Crewe itself. Also like the Alex, we have a reputation for doing things the right way; we develop our own people, and we are also a winning team. It’s great for the town and South Cheshire to be on the national stage again in this way, and they will have our full backing on Sunday”.
Come on the Alex!
