House prices up by 0.7 per cent in January

House prices in the UK went up by 0.7 per cent in January and are 8.8 per cent higher than in January 2013, according to the latest Nationwide Building Society house price index (HPI).

It means that the average UK property is now worth £176,491 and prices are just four per cent below their 2007 peak after January recorded the 13th successive month of house price gains.
