Rental Fraud On The Up
Fake landlords have been offering high-end flats for very low rents, stealing would-be tenants' money in the process. The BBC found that reports of rental fraud moved from 2,216 in 2014 to 3,193 last year. law Fraudsters have been stealing identities and posting images of interiors that differ greatly from the 'advertised' property. EasyRoomMate blocks 5pc of its 1000 posts each week before they go live, with a further 1.5pc after going live - all due to suspicion of fraud. Websites including Gumtree, Air BnB and Spare Room have also been targeted. By working with Martin & Co, you can give potential tenants much more security. Take this as an opportunity to use your status, as a landlord who uses an agent, to market yourself as professional, trustworthy source of accommodation. Source: BBC
