Fall in love with your home

Fall in love with your home
February is the month of love, with Valentine's Day just around the corner, and it's time to reflect on how you met the love of your life and make plans for the future.

But why should humans get all the affection? Your property deserves some romance as well! Remember how you first felt on moving-in day, all of a buzz at that new, special thing in your life - a home.

Like human relationships, homes need a little spark thrown into the mix from time-to-time to keep the fires of love burning strong. You may start noticing flaws in your home, or little things that irritate you...

Follow our tips below to fall in love with your home all over again on February 14th...

Making space

Give those kitchen counters a clear. Store away cereal boxes left out for convenience, stow away the washing basket and start displaying those lovely curves and surfaces you first fell in love with. Organisation and space can induce feelings of relaxation and those fuzzy feelings will soon start coming back.

Make time for each other

We're all busy and often it is our homes bearing the brunt and feeling neglected. Take a few days off work and spend some quality time in your home, remembering what it was that made you fall in love with it in the first place. Browse through Pinterest with a cup of tea and visualise how other peoples' ideas could work in your home.

Bring others into your relationship

That sounds very risque but inviting in a third party can really ramp up your love for your home. Invite some friends over, pour the wine and ask them what they think of your ideas to give your place a lift. They will have lots of great things to say and their spirit could help you think of some stunning new ideas to spice up your property.

Colour me good

Add a splash of colour to walls that have fallen into a relationship routine. A lick of paint can bring out, once again, your home's true personality - the one you fell in love with at first sight.

If your 'type' is dark and moody, try to add some zest with new furnishings and don't wait until next February to change things up again. Decorating can be continuous - have fun with it!

Be cheeky

Your home is exactly that - yours! So, unless you are presenting it in a 'played down' way in order to attract buyers, make it yours! Add elements of your personality and remind your home why it loves you. Add pictures and a canvas to a wall and display your childrens' crayon pictures.

Your home should make you smile like a cosy date with the love of your life. Materials go so far, but memories, people and love make a house a home.
