There has been an ongoing programme of improvements to Stoke on Trent’s City Centre Public Realm since 2012. Phase one included Tontine and Percy Street with phase 2 nearing its completion in Albion Square and Parliament Square and already the City Centre is a much improved environment with new paving and street furniture. Phase 3 will be starting this Autumn and will be linking the main shopping areas with the new Smithfield development which takes in Piccadilly where we at Martin and Co have our office.
Whilst there will be a fair amount of noise and we suspect some disruption it will be worth it in the end as the City Centre takes on a more modern, smarter look with the aim of encouraging more visitors and giving those of us who work and live here a City Centre to be proud of.
The planned work will give a strong identity to the Cultural Quarter of the City where we are on Piccadilly. It will form a main pedestrian link between the Smithfield development and the main shopping area which was one of the main reasons why we chose this location some 6 years ago, it may have taken a little longer than we expected for the works to start but it certainly means that Martin & Co will be located in an area of ever increasing footfall giving us an even more prominent shop window from which to display our customers properties.
There will be new street furniture, trees and greenery and areas developed to allow for street entertainment and outdoor cafes, all aimed at encouraging people back to the City Centre. There are also plans to develop the twilight and night time economies which again is great for people living in the area.
