A third of tenancies are ended due to property condition

A recent survey by the National Landlords Association and Methven found that 32% of tenants ended a tenancy due to the condition of the property. The survey also reported that less than 1 in 10 tenants are happy with the state of their property.

The old adage that kitchens and bathrooms sell houses seems to ring true in the private rental sector also, as poor quality kitchens and bathrooms are the prime issue for tenants. With nearly half (46%) of tenants saying their would not rent a property that had a poorly maintained kitchen or bathrooms.

It was also identified that property location is top of the list when shortlisting properties, compared to communal areas which is least important.
