Staff at Oxford city-centre based letting agents, Martin & Co, had to abandon their cars and wade through knee-high flood water after the city ground to a halt following the closure of two of Oxfords main roads when the River Thames and tributaries breached flood defences.
Owner of Martin & Co Oxford, Claire Urwin, said: " I live in Kennington, 3 miles from my office and we have been hit by the recent flooding. We have landlords who expect us to protect their properties, so staying at home is not an option.
" I tried my push bike yesterday but that was a disaster after I lost a tyre so this morning, with Lyndi my colleague, we battled through on foot. We made it just in time for the morning meeting at 8.45am, and managed to check some of our properties on the way.
We didn't fall over, but the blisters are a bit sore", said Claire.
