Nottingham City Council is proposing to introduce an additional licensing scheme for Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO’s) where there are 3-4 unrelated sharers. Many young people in Nottingham have no alternative but to live in a property with multiple occupiers. With the costs that Landlords incur under this scheme and other license fees payable this will create an increase in rents and will also lower property values in areas as licensed areas are often labelled as bad areas.
This licensing scheme is supposed to tackle the following issues:
- Anti Social behaviour
- Property management
It is strongly argued that licensing will not tackle these problems as the problems are generated by rogue Landlords in the city who already ignore regulations.
