The review is part of wider review into ‘Improving the rented housing sector’. It is to asses if new rules are needed on installing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and is set to start next month. House of Lords has already amended the Energy Bill giving government powers to introduce mandatory smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in rented properties. This means that as long as the review will support it the government will use the powers to make smoke and carbon monoxide alarms mandatory in private rented properties.
