The development that has ambition to become to Wales in terms of motor sport what Millenium Stadium is to rugby. The plans were approved few months ago and Heads of the Valleys Development Company (HVDC) are moving ahead. Michael Carrick ,chief executive officer of the HVDC, said:
“We will fully detail the design over the next six months with a view to start construction in the back end of this year through to next year, and open it by the back end of 2015 ready for the 2016 Motorsport season. In the UK alone the Circuit of Wales is a big infrastructure project - but when you consider the area that it is based in it is going to be even more important.”
“There will be massive opportunities not just for Ebbw Vale but for the Valleys as a whole in developing a new industry.”
This will be a big boost for Ebbw Vale and the Valleys not only in terms of the race track as an attraction but also is supposed to create between 4 to 6 thousand full time jobs. The plans are for development of engineering, science and technology businesses as well as retail spaced. It is estimated that the Circuit of Wales may attract 750,000 visitors a year.
