Earl Hyman of Martin & Co Whitefield has reported that his local council in Bury are running a ‘Get me toasty!’ campaign which is encouraging Landlords to take advantage of free insulation for their rented properties.
Over the coming months it is still possible to achieve free loft and /or cavity insulation via certain providers which will impact on your energy performance certificate (EPC) rating and of course create savings on the heating bills for the Tenants.
New legislation is due to commence in 2018 which will prevent Landlords from renting their properties to Tenants if they have an energy efficiency rating of F or G. Although 5 years away it is a good time to take advantage of free offers which will be replaced in autumn 2012 with the Green Deal.
The Green Deal has been introduced to improve the building stock in Britain and ensure that it is properly insulated as we have some of the oldest properties in Europe. This new initiative provides access to improvements of this nature without the upfront costs. The cost of the work is repaid through your energy bill over a period of time.
Until this comes into place however there is still limited funding for free insulation – every home in Britain could benefit from free grants which includes home owners, Landlords and Tenants. There is nothing to pay and no money to pay back.
Make contact with your local council to find out about any local initiatives or contact ‘Insulation Grants’ where you can make your application directly. Now is an ideal time to prepare for the change in legislation – beat the rush, pay nothing and be ready.
