The National Landlords Association, NLA, have reported a decline in rent arrears and voids. It claims the issues are at their lowest level for 2 years.
While 39% of landlords have experienced instances of rental arrears in the last 12 months, the figure is down 9% year on year, and back to levels previously seen in the first quarter of 2010.
Void periods were down 5% to 33% in the second quarter of this year compared with the first quarter. The figures showed there was greater success in the south west, whilst the worst offenders were in the north east.
William Taylor, of Martin & Co Huddersfield (Huddersfield Letting Agent, Huddersfield Estate Agent and Huddersfield Property Management) said “the figures are positive for sure. Although we have never had an issue with empty properties or bad cases of arrears. Proper tenant referencing, organised property management and good quality properties lead to a good tenancy for all – landlord, tenant and agent. It is not a mythical formula, just good work done properly. I would advise anyone who has had issues to get in touch with their local Martin & Co office.”
