Landlord Fined £12,000!

Landlord Fined £12,000!

A fine of £12,000 has been placed on a landlord who has pleaded guilty to 14 offences, including not being licensed as a private landlord.

The landlord, Latif Rehman, of Dudley also pleaded guilty to charges including electrical safety and unclear fire escapes.

A spokesman for the local council said “this prosecution should act as a reminder to all private landlords to ensure they are properly licensed and their properties are kept in a good state. If landlords don’t manage properties properly they are putting peoples lives at risk and we will not hesitate to take these matters through the courts.”

William Taylor, of Martin & Co Huddersfield added “too many times I see and hear of these kind of issues that go unactioned by the authorities and whilst I appreciate this a good result, it is not even the tip of the iceberg. I think the stem of the problem is that the lack of regulation allows unprofessional individuals into our industry and there is also a clear lack of knowledge regarding legislation by the tenants in these dangerous properties.”
