A self certified rent-to-rent guru who was running two businesses in London has supposedly vanished with the regular result of leaving tenants thousands of pounds out of pocket over deposits. However, the case took a peculiar twist when it emerged that Daniel Burton had acquired a franchise business belonging to a part of Legal & General called Xperience. Burton, who had Unida Place and George Estates in London is now the owner of the Scunthorpe franchise for Whitegates. A spokesperson for L & G said “We are unable to comment on Daniel Burton’s activity at Unida Place but can confirm he is the principal of VGC Properties Ltd, trading as Whitegates Scunthorpe. We are currently conducting our own investigations”.
William Taylor, Director of Martin & Co Huddersfield (Letting Agent Huddersfield, Estate Agent Huddersfield and Property Management Huddersfield – house to rent Huddersfield, flat to rent Huddersfield) said “These cases are becoming far too regular and are often the result of poor business practice and a lack of working legally and professionally. It is disappointing to hear that this went unheard of by L & G, but only goes to further the case for the full regulation of letting agents.”
