A Ministry of Justice report has shown that a record number of tenants were forcibly evicted from their homes in 2013. The report shows that 37,739 private and public sector tenants had their homes repossessed by court bailiffs in the year. This is the highest reported level since the year 2000.
William Taylor, Director of Martin & Co Huddersfield (Estate Agent Huddersfield, Letting Agent Huddersfield & Property Management Huddersfield) gave the following “this is obviously a worrying figure, but fortunately for my business we did not add to the figure. Taking correct steps and working with tenants, rather than against them, is the best practice. We have tenants that struggle, but we aim to re-house them to somewhere that they can afford. Full and professional referencing at the start of the process is key as well.”
