Construction of the much-discussed Westfield- Hammerson redevelopment of Croydon town centre has been delayed by a year and is now expected to start in 2016, lasting 3 years.

Westfield's Director of Development John Burton and Hammerson's Chief Investment Officer said at a recent meeting in the town that they had already committed in the region of £2000m behind the scenes and that the end result would be " the world's best centre" according to Mr Burton.

Peter Brown Director of Martin & Co Croydon & Purley who has worked as an estate agent in Croydon since 1996 said "We have already seen a fantastic amount of additional interest in the town from investors since the scheme was announced and this is likely to accelerate once building gets underway."

"Although prices have risen sharply in the last 2 years Croydon still affords buyers amazing value for an area just 15 minutes travelling time from Central London and The City. For investors, rental returns are also comparatively high.  With the Westfield development Croydon is likely to remain a London hot-spot, with the prospect of further capital growth, making it a great place to buy."
