Insurers Request Fire Blankets
We will be starting a programme to install a fire blanket in the kitchen of any property that does not currently have one. It is becoming increasingly common for insurers to specify that fire fighting equipment is available to tenants in addition to the standard smoke detection. In response to some requests from landlords the property management team have arranged to install the blankets to meet the requirements of the buildings insurance policies. We have also received advice from the Council Private Sector Housing Team that the provision of a blanket has been made a standard clause in their assessment of a privately rented dwelling. Properties without a blanket would be deemed unsafe & would fail their assessment. Property Manager Kerry Frost will be keeping the costs to our landlords to a minimum by co-coordinating the installation on a neighbourhood by neighbourhood basis.
