This is the 3rd time the Ball has been organised, with local Somerset businesswomen, Claire Andrews, starting off in 2008, after her father was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and then her hsuband Mark was subsequently diagnosed with Leukemia aged just 39.
Claire says "I decdied I wanted to give something back and try to make a difference after all we had been through". Working together with family, friends and local businesses the first ball took place ina marquee with 150 guests in October 2008. "I was thrilled that we raised £8000 and were able to buy recliner chairs for hte isolation rooms in Ward 9 at Taunton & Somerset Hospital where Mark had been treated".
October 2010 saw the second ball raise a huge £16000 which was split between Help for Heroes and Cancer Research. "Imagine how pleaseing it was to find out that some of the £7500 raised for Cancer Research was used to fund a trail drub called Anastrozole to prevent breast cancer in post-menopausal women at Yeovil Hospital....."
This year sees the return of hte Give Life Live Life Charity Ball, and this year, all of the proceeds will be donated to Cancer Research.
Claire adds: "I strongly believe that by working together; even in these difficult times, by making a contribution large or small, we can and we DO make a difference".
Emma Higgins, Managing Director of Martin & Co Letting Agents, Yeovil, got onboard with Claire and Lucy Atherley of Wincanton Print, after hearing about the Ball at the Yeovil meeting of the Women In Business Network. Having been touched by cancer herself, when her mother passed away just aged 50 from breast cancer several years ago, Emma was keen to be able to help in any way that she can, and adding the resources of Martin & Co Yeovil to the pot.
If you would like to help in anyway, Claire, Lucy and Emma would be very grateful. The Ball itself is going to be amazing so if you fancy a fantastic night with fine dining and lots of fun then grab a ticket today!
Tickets are selling at £60 per person, or £600 for a table of 10 if you want to splash out for friends or your business, and can be purchased from Emma at Martin & Co (Yeovil), in Princes Street, Yeovil town centre.
Alternatively you can help in one of the following ways:
Donation of an auction lot or raffle prize
Sponsor a 'thank you' table for the local Oncology nurses to attend.
