New Central Business District for Stoke on Trent

Work has started on another phase of the regeneration of Stoke-on-Trent city centre. Builders have moved on to the former Unity House site in Hanley as work begins on the new Central Business District as part of a 10-year project. This is the former site of Unity House, former offices of the City Council, which was demolished in 2005 since when the site has remained empty

Now that we have seen the completion of the Tesco superstore and final stage of the ring road has been finished we look forward to the development of the new Central Business District. The scheme is set to include 1.2 million square feet of office, retail and hotel space, reportedly creating more than 4,200 jobs and boosting the North Staffordshire economy by nearly £19 million a year.

The development will be built in phases and aims to be completed in 2017. It will feature the highest architectural and urban design quality from leading designers, together with innovative techniques to keep energy use to a minimum.

Whilst the area has more than its fair share of empty commercial units currently this development can only help attract new business to the area and give Stoke on Trent the best chance of taking advantage of the upturn in the economy when it finally comes. This is a significant development which will help attract people to work and live in the area.
