Rising tenancy fraud

Landlord Assist, A UK based tenant referencing and eviction company, has today warned landlords and letting agents to watch out for a scam which sees an applicant take a property in a block of flats. The tenant then attempts to fraudulently obtain identities of the other residents in the block.

Managing director of Landlord Assist, Graham Kinnear, says "This is a fairly common trick these days and invariably the "tenant" tries to obtain the flat by using a stolen identity. The tenant will then intercept post intended for the other residents in the block and use that information to obtain credit cards, loans and to order goods and services from over the internet."
