Insurance and Tenants Liability

Although as a tenant you may not require buildings insurance, there are many reasons why it is important to consider tenant contents insurance for your home;

Tenants Contents Insurance will cover your own belongings and personal possessions in your rented property up to your selected sum insured for insured events like damage from escape of water or where there is a break in and items are stolen.  Tenants Insurance will cover items in your home like your furniture, televisions, personal computers and laptops, electrical equipment, clothing, jewellery etc. Have you considered the cost of replacing them all if something unexpected were to happen?

Accidents happen to even the most careful tenants and something as simple as a glass of red wine spilled on the Landlords carpet could result in you having to replace the item, or risk having a deduction made from your deposit. As a tenant you are responsible if you accidentally damage the items left by the Landlord for your use e.g their carpets, the kitchen units, oven, fridge etc, basically any furniture, furnishings, fixtures or fittings……Covering your liability as a tenant basically means buying insurance that will cover you if you accidentally damage any of your landlord’s furnishings, fittings and fixtures that you are responsible for in your tenancy agreement. Taking out this insurance means if you do have an accident you can help protect your deposit.

Tenancy Liability insurance can be obtained as part of a specialist Tenants Contents policy and you are free to shop around.  We are not asking you to insure your own belongings, but it is a condition of your tenancy that you do have Tenants Liability cover.
