We here at Martin & Co are lucky to operate in such a lovely part of the world right on the North Downs and within an hour of London and located right by the M25.
The area has two main towns of Reigate and Redhill and some pretty surrounding villages, including Betchworth, Nutfield & Bletchingley.
Redhill is a thriving business and shopping centre offering a fast train service to both Gatwick and London and located on the A23. Many large businesses are located here including Santander due to it's ease of access to major routes via rail, air or motorway. The town centre benefits from a good sized shopping mall - The Belfry with a large Marks & Spencer and most high street stores. It has a market each Thursday and Saturday and sometimes hosts a French market. The town has a distinctive red-brick theatre-cinema-library complex, called the Warwick Quadrant (housing the Harlequin Theatre and Cinema, library, Sainsbury's and other shops).
Reigate, by comparison is a smaller market town with a vast array of boutique stores nestled amongst fashion stores such as Monsoon, East, Fat Face and Jack Wills. Although there are two supermarkets in Reigate, Morrisons, and M&S, the town still manages to keep hold of a village feel.
The town has a selection of cafes and restaurants making it a popular place to meet with friends during the day or through to the evening where the bars offer very different atmosphere in each establishment all of which are very welcoming and very popular on weekends. Eating out in Reigate is excellent with everything on offer from pizza, tapas, Indian cuisine, Thai curry, Nepalese, French and even a celebrity chef, Tony Tobin, offering the finest English food for miles around. You can't go hungry in Reigate. There is a lovely cinema where you can see the latest releases whilst being able to sip your wine whilst in the summer months, you can watch films in the open air at a variety of locations. The train station offers frequent services via Redhill to London or to Guildford and Reading.
The area is well served with excellent schools both primary and secondary, state and private. St Bedes in Redhill achieves excellent results year on year and the primary schools in Reigate such as Holmesdale and Priory have people desperate to be in the catchments.
The most popular park in Reigate is the Priory Park, which is located behind the High Street, adjacent to Bell Street. It has a massive enclosed area for smaller children as well as football fields, tennis courts, a skatepark, a huge wooded area and a serene lake with an abundance of wildlife. The town is steeped in history and is even mentioned in the Doomsday book.
Within easy reach, there's Godstone Farm, Chessington and Thorpe Park for family days out and Brighton and its beaches are less than an hour away.
We experience a lot of potential tenants looking to move from the hustle and bustle of London life into quieter surroundings and this area appeals to many. Renting property seems the obvious choice for those looking to see if they like living in a new area with a lot less commitment required than purchasing a house or flat.
