The City of Manchester has something to offer everyone and the city centre itself will never disappoint.

Deansgate and Market Street are the centre's principal retail streets and King Street (with high-class shops) and St Ann's Square are known for their specialist fashion and other shops. In addition there is also the famous Manchester Arndale Centre shopping mall and several renowned department stores including Marks and Spencer and Debenhams on Market Street, House of Fraser on Deansgate, Harvey Nichols on New Cathedral Street and Selfridges in Exchange Square.

Tired of shopping? There are many leisure facilities in the city centre including the Printworks, a large facility containing a cinema (including an IMAX screen), numerous bars, clubs and restaurants and also Manchester's first Hard Rock Cafe. The Northern Quarter, centred around Oldham Street, is known for its Bohemian atmosphere and independent shops and cafes. The landscaping of the city centre has provided several public spaces including Piccadilly Gardens, which incorporates fountains, green spaces and hubs for both bus travel and the Metrolink tram service.

Upcoming changes to the face of the city include NOMA 53, one of the Co-operative Group's most challenging projects to date, as it aims to transform a 20-acre (81,000 m2) section of Manchester into a new retail, office and residential quarter where its own new headquarters will be housed. The site will be branded "NOMA 53" in reference to "NOrth MAnchester" and the locations co-ordinates.

The £800 million development will see The City Building become the luxurious Hotel Indigo, which will include a Marco Pierre White restaurant and is set to open in autumn 2012 and the two buildings on the corner of Corporation Street and Balloon Street (where the Co-Op currently reside) will be converted into a vast swathe of grade A office accommodation due to complete by 2013. 

With such exciting new developments on the horizon, it's clear to all that Manchester is not only a city with a history, but a city with a bright, bright future that looks set to keep it at the forefront of the North of England.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR TENANTS - BASIC WINTER MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES AND WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY



Below are a few guidelines to help you look after your property properly over the winter period;



Minimise the amount of clothes you dry inside the property or on radiators (always use a dyer where possible), this will prevent condensation building up inside your apartment and always open a window or two to ventilate.



INSURANCE... is vital at this time of year, if the pipes burst in your apartment block, or the electrics go and all the food in your fridge/freezer is ruined – you have to claim on your insurance – your landlord is not responsible for this! Check you have an insurance policy and what it covers.



IF A PIPE BURSTS IN YOUR BLOCK.... you will need to turn the stopcock off.. please click here for information on how to find and turn it off.



GOING AWAY.... If you are leaving the property for over 5 days please make sure you:
Set your heating to come on at intervals to keep the pipes working and your boiler ticking over



Make sure you don’t leave any taps dripping (this can lead to burst pipes)



Advise a neighbour or friends to keep an eye on the property for you. If you go away for over 5 days keep your heating on CONSTANTLY!
