The event, which included Halloween themed arts and crafts, an ice rink, a space simulator, street entertainers and the town crier was kicked off by the unveiling of the new Orrery sculpture by its creator, artist Paul Lewthwaite.
SKDC's chairman, Cllr Mike Cook told a crowd of around 150 shoppers:"The Orrery takes pride of place in the newly regenerated area we stand in. The works have been a great example of partnership working between Lincolshire County Council and South Kesteven District Council through Grantham Growth Point.
"The transformation is magnificent and will last for years to come. The quality of the materials used combined with the design in keeping with historic Grantham will be enjoyed by generations."
The sculpture, which represents the earth and moon with a smaller sculpture representing Venus is unique and has direct links to the history of Grantham and its connections with Sir Isaac Newton.
The improvements will hopefully bring more customers and visitors back to Grantham which in turn will encourage new businesses to open and existing businesses to prosper.
