The Dorchester team
Opening in Weymouth in 2008, franchisees David James and Donna Taylor have seen their business grow rapidly over the last couple of years, building on the Martin & Co reputation of getting property let quickly at sensible rents.
Extensive marketing methods and brand awareness including eye-catching boards, company cars and an active advertising campaign on Wessex FM have all resulted in an increase in enquiries from Landlords and Tenants all benefitting from the fresh and friendly but professional approach to residential letting and property management.
Live and rent in Dorchester
In addition to the charming architecture in and around the busy shopping centre, Dorchester is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in the County with the River Frome meandering along the northern boundary, separating the town from open meadows and farmland.
The surrounding villages such as Cerne Abbas, Piddletrenthide and Martinstown are tranquil and picturesque with quaint brick and flint cottages and farmhouses, unique village stores and other community facilities to suit all requirements.
Visitors are attracted to Durnovaria throughout the year with an abundance of things to see and do in this thriving community. Thomas Hardy, the famous writer and poet, was born just 3 miles outside the town at Higher Bockhampton and after a short time In London, returned to Dorset where he lived at Max Gate with his wife Emma. Both properties are now owned by the National Trust and attract visitors and enthusiasts from far and wide.
More recently the town has seen extensive development with the creation of New Poundbury, inspired by Prince Charles and built on land owned by the Duchy of Cornwall on the outskirts of the town. This is principally residential, offering a wide variety of houses and apartments, although has incorporated sites for employment and retail use. Poundbury is expected to be fully completed by 2025 when it will add approximately 5,000 to the population of Dorchester with 2,000 jobs in the factories, offices and general facilities across the site.
Many people decide to live in Poundbury because of its pioneering principles. At its heart is the importance of pedestrian friendly public space and of integrating employment, private and affordable housing and community facilities. It is intended to be a sustainable development where it is possible to meet a higher proportion of daily needs on foot, rather than relying on the car.
As a mixed-use settlement with factories, offices, shops and facilities are dispersed amongst the residential neighbourhoods. It is therefore possible for some people to live and work in the same community. There are facilities such as restaurants, shops, vets, hairdressers, cafes, pubs, children’s nurseries and community facilities close to homes.
There is a regular demand for all types of property from couples and families already living in the area to people relocating for new employment. We have regular enquiries from applicants needing family homes around school catchment areas including Thomas Hardye and St Osmunds both of which are highly sought after.
