The area

Basingstoke is a large market town located halfway between London and Southampton. (Basingstoke is often nicknamed "Doughnut City" or "Roundabout City" due to the number of roundabouts.) It is a prosperous town, with an above-average standard of living and very low unemployment.

Basingstoke has excellent road links via the M3 motorway to the capital and London Waterloo is only 39 minutes away by train. Though significant proportion of Basingstoke s population will commute to London for work, many are employed in the local area. Basingstoke is home to numerous blue chip companies such as; The Automobile Association, Shire Pharmaceuticals, Motorola, Sony, Sainsbury s Distribution Centre and many more. Being located almost halfway between London and Southampton, Basingstoke is not far from the south coast, or the UK's capital city, however there is plenty on offer in the town itself. The Festival Place shopping mall is in the heart of town with a wide range of shops and restaurants on offer.

Festival Place also hosts a number of regional festivals and exhibitions. Keeping with tradition, a market still takes place in the older part of town on a Wednesday and Saturday.

The local borough of Basingstoke and Deane offers a variety of town bars, wine bars and country pubs. There are plenty of other opportunities to relax since the area is served well by cinemas, the Aquadrome and the Planet Ice Arena which is home to the ice hockey teams Basingstoke Bisons and Basingstoke Hyenas.

All things considered, Basingstoke and the surrounding area is a great place to live and work !
