Why keeping an eye on the roof is a good idea

21st June 2012

From rising damp to faulty wiring, there are a lot of things that can go wrong with a property that aren't always immediately evident.

But while the roof is one area that people rarely get the opportunity to cast their eye over, it may be a good idea to keep a check on any potential problems, as one expert explains that mortar can be susceptible to a range of issues.

"Even with the best roofing skills in the world, mortar is a product which succumbs to building movement. When it starts falling out that is when rain can get in or insects and animals can get into the roof space," said Nick Oldridge from Roofapedia.com.

With mortar prone to cracks and leaks as a result of weathering and natural building movement, it seems that property owners would do well to ensure their roof is properly maintained in order to avoid having to foot potentially costly repair bills.

And considering that there are a variety of areas in a property that need attention from time to time, cheap landlord insurance can serve as an effective safety net for landlords hoping to maintain their profits.
