Rental property investors seeking affordable buy-to-let properties to add to their portfolios should perhaps check the number on the door.
According to new research from Zoopla.co.uk, houses with the number 13 are on average £4,000 cheaper than their identical neighbours.
The property portal found that due to superstition, many local councils actually prohibit number 13s from being built.
In fact, some 28 per cent of UK streets are built without one.
However, landlords who do not suffer from triskaidekaphobia could make substantial savings if they snap up a number 13 rental home.
Nicholas Leeming, business development director at Zoopla.co.uk, said: "Buying something identical to next door for two per cent less and saving almost £4,000 on average is like having your stamp duty and legal fees paid for you."
Those concerned that they would struggle to find tenants for a number 13 property may be heartened to hear that not everyone considers it unlucky.
Indeed, many Sikhs and Italians actually believe the opposite, while many more individuals shun superstition altogether.
This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby is one of them. According to Zoopla.co.uk, she not only has a number 13 home on the market, but she also lives in London's SW13 postcode area.
The research also showed that house prices tend to decrease as address numbers rise with numbers one and two deemed the most valuable because they typically occupy corner of end of terrace locations.
This may also be worth considering when investing in new buy-to-let properties.
